BMW key programming isn't a dealer-only job for most models on the road. The car's CAS, FEM, or BDC module checks the fob's transponder through an antenna. The car doesn't know or care whether the key was programmed at a BMW service center or in a parking lot next to a stack of camping gear. The CAS module runs the same security handshake either way.
