Got a call from the Via Marina neighborhood in Oxnard. A woman with a 2014 Z4 sDrive28i had one working key left and wanted a spare before that became zero keys.
She had already called her dealer. They told her to bring the car in, leave it, and come back in a few days once the key was ordered and programmed. She asked if she could wait. They said no, the parts department needed to order the blank and the service bay schedule was backed up. So she would need a ride home and a ride back. For a spare key.
Her neighbor had seen my van before and gave her my number.
I met her in her driveway. The Z4 comfort access delete trim uses a straight slot key with an ID7944 transponder chip inside. No remote, no buttons, no battery. Just blade and chip. I pulled the key data from her CAS3+ module through the OBD port using my Smart Pro, cut the HU92 blade to match, and ran the ISN reading and key learning sequence. The CAS3+ has a specific sync procedure where the module and the DME exchange ISN data to accept a new transponder. Takes a few minutes of handshake time where you just watch the screen.
Cut, programmed, tested in both ignition positions, and she had her spare in about 30 minutes. She stood there holding both keys like she was weighing them against each other.
Way less than the dealer route, and she never lost her car for a single day.
