Over in the Pleasant Valley area of Oxnard, a 2015 Z4 owner was stuck at a spin studio parking lot. Car wouldn't turn over. Key went into the ignition, dash lit up, then nothing. Just an ELV steering lock warning staring back at her.
She had already called the dealer. They quoted a new electronic steering lock module, new keys, full reprogram, and a flatbed tow to get it there. Weeks of waiting.

I pulled up with my Yanhua ACDP and read the CAS3+ module through OBD. The ELV itself was fine. What I found was a classic voltage drop fault. Her 12V battery was sagging just enough under load that the steering lock module wasn't completing its unlock cycle. The CAS was seeing the key, the Hitag2 handshake was passing, but the ELV was hanging mid-rotation because it wasn't getting clean power.
I cleared the ELV fault, load-tested the battery and confirmed it was on its way out, and told her to get it swapped soon. Then I cycled the ignition a dozen times, checked that the steering lock engaged and released cleanly every time, and verified all three remote buttons on her key.
Her key worked the whole time. The steering lock just needed enough voltage to do its job. She drove home that afternoon instead of waiting on a tow truck and a parts order.
