Your 1999 Cadillac Deville uses a metal key with buttons on the face, a battery inside powering the proximity signal, and an emergency blade that slides out of the housing for manual door entry when the battery dies. Inside is a transponder chip that the car's body control module checks every time you press the start button.

A customer at home near McGrath State Beach had a Deville with a worn smart key. The chrome trim ring was cracked, the rubber button pad was peeling, and the emergency blade slot had gotten loose from daily use. She took it to the dealer and they quoted 200 for a full replacement. What they didn't mention is that the chip and circuit board inside were working fine. She just needed a new shell.

I met her in her driveway with replacement fob shells and my HU100 Lishi for the newer Cadillac keyway. Her fob, FCC ID , had the same wear pattern I see on dozens of Cadillac smart keys. I moved the working electronics into a fresh shell, replaced the buttons, and cut a new emergency blade.

She paid about 95. The dealer wanted 200 for a whole new fob when she only needed a shell swap and fresh buttons. The expensive electronics inside were perfectly fine.
