Over in the Wagon Wheel neighborhood in Oxnard, a woman called me from a medical office parking lot on a Monday. Her 2003 Deville wouldn't start. She turned the key, the engine cranked, and nothing. Security light sitting there glowing steady on the dash. Classic PK3 no-start.
She'd already called the Cadillac dealer. Earliest appointment was Thursday. They wanted her to tow it in, leave it, and they'd get to it when they got to it. She had kids at two different schools and no second car. Three days without the Deville was not an option.
I got to the lot that same afternoon. Hooked up my programmer to the OBD-II port and read the theft deterrent module. It wasn't seeing the transponder at all. The ID 13 chip in her original key had just died. Twelve years of use and the chip gave up.
Cut a new B99 blank, programmed the PK3 transponder through the diagnostic port, and ran the security relearn. The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. She turned the key and the Northstar fired right up. Security light cycled off like it was supposed to.
She sat there for a second with her hands on the wheel, like she was making sure it was real. Then she just said "Monday call, Monday fix" back to me like she was memorizing it.
