2005 Cadillac Deville Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A couple near Hollywood Beach in Oxnard called me on a Friday night. They had been out walking the strand and came back to their 2005 Cadillac DeVille sitting dead in terms of starting. Key turned, dash lit up, fuel gauge moved, but the engine would not crank. The DIC just sat there showing "THEFT SYSTEM."
She told me her husband had been wiggling the key a lot lately because the ignition felt loose. Classic wear pattern on these B99 keyways. The transponder pellet in the key head was fine, but the key blade was so worn it was barely making consistent contact inside the ignition cylinder, which meant the Passkey III+ antenna ring was getting intermittent reads on the PK3 chip.
I cut a fresh B99 transponder key on site, programmed the new PK3 chip to the BCM through the OBD-II port using my diagnostic tool, and ran the security relearn. The ten-minute countdown did its thing. Engine fired right up.
Then I tested the second original key they still had. It read fine, so I left it registered. Two working keys, verified on the spot.
They had already looked up the dealer. Earliest appointment was the following Wednesday, and they would have needed a tow to get there. Instead they drove home that night. The whole job took about 25 minutes once I had hands on the car.
