1997 Cadillac Deville MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy near Oxnard Boulevard who had a 1997 Deville sitting in his condo parking spot with one key to its name. The bow on the key blade was cracked almost in half, and the little black resistor pellet was chipped on one edge. He had been babying it for months, turning the ignition gently like he was defusing something.

He called the Cadillac dealer first. They told him to tow it in and quoted a wait of a few days just for scheduling. He did not love that answer.

I parked next to the Deville and pulled out my Lishi GM39 to decode the sidebar wafers through the door lock. Ten positions, read clean. Then I checked the resistor pellet on his original key with an ohmmeter. It read right at pellet number 6, which is 1.13k ohms. Even with the chip damage it was still in range, but barely.

Cut a new B62 blank with the correct VATS pellet, tested it in the door, then slid it into the ignition. The theft light on the dash cycled and the Northstar turned over first try. No drama.

He stood there holding the old cracked key like he was not ready to let it go yet. I told him to keep it in a drawer as a backup. The resistor still reads, so it could bail him out someday.

Whole thing took about 25 minutes. He saved a good chunk and never moved the car.
