1997 Cadillac Deville
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1997 Cadillac Deville Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Hollywood by the Sea, the buildings sit close to the coast and the salt air does a number on older hardware over time. A resident there called about his 1997 Cadillac DeVille.

His original key had gotten to the point where he had to wiggle it just right to get the door open, and one day it stopped turning in the ignition altogether. He had already been to a hardware store that made him a copy of the worn key, which of course had the same problem baked right into it.

I pulled up to the building with my decoding tools and went straight to the door lock cylinder. Reading the actual wafer positions told me what the lock wanted, not what the original key used to be before years of use rounded everything down. Cut the replacement blade to match the real lock, dressed it lightly, and tested it in the door, then the ignition, then the trunk.

It turned clean in all three on the first try.

He mentioned the dealer had told him they might need to rekey the lock cylinders, which would have been a much bigger job and a much bigger number. He did not need that. He needed someone who decoded the lock instead of copying the worn key.
