2000 Cadillac Deville Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in the Ormond Beach area of Oxnard, late on a weekday. He had a 2000 DeVille sitting in a lot and zero working keys. Not a dead fob, not a damaged fob. Just gone. He had been carrying one key for years, told himself he would get a spare made eventually, and eventually caught up with him.
He was calm about it, which I always appreciate. He found his VIN on the windshield base without me even having to ask, and he had his registration pulled up on his phone before I arrived. That kind of prep is what turns a stressful situation into a manageable one.
I drove out to him with the right key blank and the tools to handle an all-keys-lost on this generation. The DeVille's theft deterrent system on these early 2000s cars requires the transponder to be recognized before the engine will stay running. Cut the blade wrong or skip the programming, and the car will crank and immediately die. So the cut has to be right and the chip learn has to complete. I got both done under the parking lot lights while he stood nearby.
When the engine turned over and held, he let out a long breath. Said he had been dreading a tow and a dealer visit that he figured would take days and cost a lot more. He drove home with a working key that night.
The dealer comparison was not even the point for him. He just wanted to be back on the road. That part I can always handle.
