Your 2017 Lexus RC uses a smart key with 4 buttons on the face, a CR1632 battery inside for the proximity signal, and a small emergency blade that slides out for manual door entry. Inside is a transponder chip that communicates with the car's smart ECU every time you press start.
A customer at home near Historic Plaza Park had a RC with a worn smart key. The rubber buttons were fading, the shell had a hairline crack, and the emergency blade slot was loose. She paid about 343. The dealer wanted 623 for a whole new fob when she only needed a shell swap and fresh buttons.
