2016 Lexus RC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Down at Fisherman's Wharf at the Harbor in Oxnard, a guy had just picked up a 2016 Lexus RC from a private seller. Clean title, good shape, one Smart Key. The seller told him to get a spare on his own time. He figured a Lexus key would run more than a regular Toyota but wasn't expecting what the dealer quoted.
He found me online and asked if that number was normal. I told him it was a normal dealer number, not a normal locksmith number.
I met him in the harbor lot. His fob was the HYQ14FBA, part number 89904-30A30, four-button Smart Key with the H-chip DST 80 transponder inside. The RC sits on Lexus's older rear-drive platform and uses the TOY48 key blade profile for the emergency insert. I pulled key data through the OBD port, wrote the H-chip to a new proximity fob, and cut the TOY48 insert on my mobile machine.
Both fobs tested clean. Push-button start, door handle touch lock and unlock on driver and passenger sides, trunk release. Everything responded.
He drove off with two working Smart Keys for a fraction of what the dealer wanted for one. That second key also means if one ever goes missing, the next call is a simple add-a-key instead of all-keys-lost. On a Lexus with the H-chip system, that difference saves a good chunk.
