The call came in from Wilson, over near the Oxnard coast. A woman had driven her RC in for the weekend and the fob had been acting off since the day before, short range, touch unlock going unreliable. Then it stopped responding entirely. Push-to-start wouldn't see it and the door handles weren't triggering. She had no backup key.

The battery wasn't the problem. There was visible corrosion on one of the internal contacts, probably from humidity or a splash at some point, the kind of thing that builds quietly until the fob just gives up.
New fob, cut the emergency insert blade on site, connected to the OBD port and registered the new key to the vehicle's security system. Tested every button, walked both door handles, confirmed push-to-start was seeing the fob. Everything came up clean.
She had a working key in about 35 minutes. She checked out the next morning on schedule. The dealer comparison wasn't even the point for her. She just needed to get home.
