2021 Lexus RC Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman from Silver Strand called me on a Tuesday morning. She had walked out to her 2021 Lexus RC, hit the door handle, and nothing happened. No click, no unlock. The dash showed a key-not-detected warning when she finally got in manually with the emergency blade, and the start button would barely respond when she held the fob against it.
She had already been to the dealer. They told her she needed a new fob programmed and possibly a diagnostic inspection of the immobilizer system, and that parts had to be ordered. She was looking at close to a week without her car.
I drove out to her building near Silver Strand and started at the obvious place: the CR2032. She said she had replaced it herself a few weeks back. When I opened the fob, I could see why the problem was still happening. The replacement battery had a thin plastic film still on one face. It was making just enough contact to show a charge on a meter but not enough to drive the fob properly. Pulled it, seated a clean cell, and the fob came back immediately.
I still ran through the full check: touch unlock on both door handles, the start button, every button on the fob, and a walk around to confirm the antenna response felt consistent at normal range. Everything came back solid.
She did not need a new fob. She did not need a dealer appointment. She saved a good chunk compared to where that service visit was heading. The whole call took about twenty-five minutes, and I was parked right next to her RC the entire time.
