Do you need to tow your 2009 Lexus SC to the dealer? For most Lexus models from the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, probably not. I handle all-keys-lost right at the car.
A customer at home in Santa Barbara had his only fob stop working at midnight. His SC was in the driveway with push-to-start and no key the car would recognize. He assumed a tow was the only option and started researching flatbed prices. I told him to stay put.
I connected my Smart Pro to OBD and ran the Lexus smart key AKL procedure. His transponder key, FCC ID , was a -button proximity fob on the newer 8A system. I programmed it in his driveway at 12:30am. He seemed pretty surprised it could all be done right there.
His total was about 174. Dealer would have been 369 plus a tow and a wait until business hours. There are a small number of brand-new Lexus platforms that require dealer-only online authorization for AKL. Those go to the dealer and I'll tell you upfront. But for the vast majority on the road, 2005 through about 2021, I do all-keys-lost on-site regularly.
