1998 Lexus SC
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1998 Lexus SC Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Wilson on a Tuesday afternoon, parked off one of the quieter side streets near the tennis courts. The owner had an SC that was starting fine but the remote had gone completely dead.

No lock, no unlock, nothing. She had already tried a battery swap, but she grabbed the wrong size at the store and the replacement was sitting just loose enough to make contact intermittently. So sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not, and she assumed the fob itself had given out.

I popped the fob open on the hood of my van. Wrong battery, slightly bent negative contact, and a small amount of corrosion on the terminal that had been sitting there long enough to look like it belonged. Cleaned the contact, seated the correct CR1616, and snapped it closed.

Then I walked the job the same way I always do. Not just one button press and call it good. I tested all three buttons from across the parking lot, walked the full range, and ran through the sequence a few times to confirm it was consistent and not just getting lucky on one press.

She had already resigned herself to a dealer trip. The dealer quote she mentioned was not close to what the actual problem cost to fix. She kept looking at the fob like she expected it to fail again.

It did not.
