Got a call from a guy down in Funk Zone, Santa Barbara, standing next to his 2006 Lexus SC 430 at a highway pulloff. His key blade snapped clean in the ignition. Half the blade wedged in the cylinder, the other half in his hand.
He had already called another locksmith who quoted him for a full ignition cylinder replacement over the phone. New cylinder, new keys, the whole tear-down. That is a big job on the SC because the column trim is tight and the lock housing sits deep.
I drove out and used my TOY43R Lishi tool to slide in alongside the broken fragment and pull it straight out without scratching the brass wafer surfaces. Then I decoded the lock right off the cylinder readings. Eight wafers, clean data. Cut a new TOY48BT blade on site and programmed the 4D-67 transponder chip through the OBD port under the dash.
His remote was fine. The HYQ12BBK is a separate piece on the 2006 SC, so the fob buttons still worked. He just needed the new blade and a fresh chip registered to the immobilizer.
No drilling, no cylinder swap. His original lock works with the new key exactly as it did before. He sat on the hood watching the whole thing and kept turning the key in the ignition like he was testing me. Fair enough. It worked every time.
Saved him a good chunk over the destructive route.
