What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2016 ILX?

All-keys-lost on the ILX is a real job with real steps: the immobilizer has to be reset through the OBD port, a new key gets cut to the vehicle, and the transponder and smart key functions all get registered fresh in the same session. Can you delete my lost or stolen key from my Acura so it can't start the car anymore?

Yes. When new keys are programmed to the ILX, the immobilizer clears its existing key memory and registers only the keys present during that session. Any previously registered fob, including a lost or stolen one, loses its ability to start the car. That's how the system is built, not a locksmith trick.

One thing to keep in mind: the emergency blade inside a stolen fob can still open the door mechanically, since that's a physical cut, not an electronic one. If that's a concern, we can rekey the door cylinder at the same time.

Does my 2016 ILX smart key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a small release on the fob, usually on the back or side, that lets you slide a metal blade out. That blade fits the driver's door lock cylinder, which on the ILX is typically covered by a small cap on the door handle. Pop the cap, use the blade, and you're in.

Once inside with a dead fob, hold it directly against the start button while pressing the brake. The car can read the transponder at close range even without battery power in the fob. A lot of ILX owners have no idea that sequence exists until 11pm in a parking lot somewhere. Worth knowing before you need it.

My 2016 ILX shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is brand new. What's going on?

This comes up on these cars more than you'd expect. If a fresh CR2032 didn't fix it, there are a few things worth checking before assuming the fob or the immobilizer is the problem.

First, make sure the new battery is seated correctly. The contact points inside the fob are small and the cell can sit slightly off without looking wrong. A fob that reads fine in your hand can intermittently drop signal if the battery is rocking even a little.

Second, check whether the warning is consistent or just occasional. If it only shows up sometimes, especially in certain spots in the car, the antenna that reads the fob near the start button or door handles may be the issue, not the key itself.

Third, if you have a second key, test it. If the second key works without any warning, the problem is isolated to the first fob. If both keys trigger the warning, you're looking at something on the vehicle side. At that point it needs a proper read with diagnostic equipment to see what the system is reporting.

I bought a replacement fob online for my 2016 ILX. Can I program it myself?

No. The ILX smart key system does not have an owner-accessible self-programming sequence. There's no ignition-turn trick, no button combination. Programming a new smart fob requires OBD diagnostic equipment. The fob you bought will need a locksmith or dealer to pair it.
