2019 Acura ILX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2019 Acura ILX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in The Crosby, I got a call from a guy with a 2019 ILX and a fob that looked like it had survived a parking lot war. The housing had split right along the seam, the buttons were mushy, and one side of the shell was held together with what I can only describe as optimistic thinking.

He had already called the dealer. They quoted him a full fob replacement, programmed and cut. He said the number they gave him made him pause long enough to go looking for another option.

When I got there, I asked him to try starting the car before I touched anything. It started. The engine ran fine. The remote functions were inconsistent, but the car still recognized the key when it was close to the start button. That told me the electronics inside were intact. The problem was entirely mechanical: a cracked shell letting the battery float off the contacts.

I transferred his working circuit board into a fresh housing, seated a new CR2032, and tested every button and the start function. Lock, unlock, trunk release, the remote start button if equipped. Everything came back clean.

Then I showed him the old shell so he could see exactly what had failed. Just plastic. The guts were fine.

He got his fob back working like new, spent a fraction of what the dealer quoted, and did not have to arrange a tow or a day off to sit in a waiting room. That is usually how these go when someone calls before assuming the worst.
