2019 BMW 4 Series Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the waterfront off Bay Marina Drive in National City when a woman walked up to my van with the fob in her hand and that look on her face. She'd already tried a new battery. Her 2019 BMW 4 Series was sitting in the lot, and the dash was showing a key-not-detected warning every time she approached.
She had one working key left. The second fob had stopped being recognized a few weeks prior, and she'd been meaning to deal with it. Then that morning, the remaining fob started acting up too, and the two problems arrived at the same time.
I pulled up the vehicle and confirmed both fobs had registration issues. The one she'd been using daily had drifted out of sync, and the other one was functionally dead. All-keys-lost territory.
That changes the job. The module read takes longer, the security sequence has a timed component built in, and you have to let the process finish before registration can happen. I explained that to her while I worked so she wasn't standing there wondering why I wasn't done in five minutes.
Once the new fob was registered and the blade was cut to the vehicle, I did the full walkthrough: lock, unlock, trunk release, all four buttons, started the car three times, and because her trim had the proximity entry feature on the door handles, I walked both sides and confirmed those were reading the fob correctly. Then I stepped back about thirty feet in the lot and ran through it again to verify range.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her more time than she had and a wait for parts. She paid a fraction of that, never left the lot, and had two working keys before lunch.
