2016 BMW X4
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2016 BMW X4 Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A call came in from Harbison Canyon, Alpine. Owner of a 2016 BMW X4, standing in his driveway, fob totally dead. He had already tried holding it up to the start button the way you see in videos online, nothing worked. He thought the whole key system had failed.

When I got there he showed me the fob. The battery was gone, not just weak, completely flat. The touch unlock on the handle was unresponsive, the start button was not seeing anything, and he had no idea there was a blade in that fob at all. He had owned the car two years.

I popped the release tab, slid out the emergency blade, and walked him over to the driver door. Lifted the small cover hiding the cylinder. He unlocked it himself just to see it work. His face said everything.

Then we replaced the fob battery on the hood of my van. Comfort access came back immediately. Start button worked. All of it, from the time I pulled up to the time I was packing up, was under twenty minutes.

He asked about the dealer. I told him what most of my BMW calls look like when they start at the dealer first. He said he was glad he called me instead.
