Seven Oaks on a Saturday morning. Guy flags me down from his driveway, which I wasn't expecting, but he'd been watching for my van. His 1999 Lesabre had been sitting for a few days because he didn't trust the fob. Locks were acting up, remote range had dropped to arm's length, and one button had stopped responding entirely.
He'd already swapped the battery. New CR2032, correct size, seated properly. Still weak.
I pulled the fob apart on the hood. The battery contact looked fine at a glance, but when I put a little pressure on it, there was just enough flex in the clip to break contact under vibration. Classic for a fob this age. The plastic housing had also developed a hairline crack near one corner, probably from being dropped, and it was letting the internal board shift slightly inside the case.
Replaced the fob, reprogrammed it to the car using the onboard procedure right there in the driveway, and walked the parking pad doing range tests while he watched from the front step. Lock, unlock, trunk release, panic. All four buttons. Three clean starts on the blade side.
He mentioned he'd called the dealer first out of habit. They quoted him a wait and a number that made him set the phone down. He found me about ten minutes later.
The whole job was done before his coffee got cold.
