2003 Buick Lesabre
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2003 Buick Lesabre Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call on a Wednesday from a dentist over at his practice in Del Mar Heights. He had patients booked back to back and his 2003 Buick LeSabre would not start. The security light was sitting solid on the dash. He could not leave, could not tow it mid-day, and his lunch window was about 40 minutes.

I drove out and met him in the lot between his appointments.

The blade was cutting fine. The issue was the transponder -- the vehicle security system was not recognizing the chip, and the car had gone into its lockout state from a few failed attempts before he called me. I let the timer clear, connected to the OBD port, ran the relearn procedure through the body control module, and got the replacement key enrolled. The security light went off. Engine started clean.

He was back inside before his 1pm patient sat down.

He mentioned almost calling the dealer first. That route would have meant an appointment, probably a day or two out, towing the car in since it would not drive, and sitting in queue behind whatever else they had going. A week of downtime is realistic on an older Buick at a dealership that does not keep these blanks on the shelf. He saved a good chunk just on towing alone, and the key was done the same morning he called.
