2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I pulled into the swap meet field off Bancroft on a Saturday evening when most vendors were already breaking down their tables.

The guy who called me had a 2002 PT Cruiser parked in the same spot it had been all day. He'd lost his only key sometime during setup that morning, found it stepped on and snapped by early afternoon. The blade was done. He'd already called the dealer, who told him to tow it in, wait for a parts order, and come back later in the week. He wasn't doing that. He had a van full of merchandise and nowhere to leave the car overnight.

I pulled out the key blank that fits this car, cut it to his lock using my code cutter, then connected to the OBD port and walked the immobilizer through accepting the new transponder chip. The antenna ring on these is built right around the ignition collar, so once the chip is in range and the module says yes, you know it immediately. Cranked on the first try.

He tested it twice himself, which I always appreciate. Turn it off, walk away, come back, start it again. It cooperated both times.

He mentioned what the dealer quoted. I told him what he owed me. He said something about wishing he'd called sooner instead of sitting on it all day. That's the part I hear a lot.
