2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already working in Kearny Mesa on a Saturday evening when the call came in from another part of San Diego. A parent had just walked out of a bowling alley with a van full of kids from a birthday party.
Their 2007 PT Cruiser was sitting there completely unresponsive. The fob would not lock or unlock, and when they got in and tried to start it, the engine cranked but died immediately. They assumed it was something major.
I had the right remote head key blank already stocked. CR2032 cells, the correct housing, the emergency blade cut for their vehicle, all of it in labeled drawers behind my driver's seat. I do not order parts when someone calls.
When I got there I started simple. The original fob battery was reading low on my tester, borderline enough to fool the remote functions into working occasionally but not enough to hold the transponder handshake at ignition. That crank-and-stall pattern is the immobilizer cutting fuel after it fails to authenticate the chip. Fresh battery first, relearn procedure through the OBD port, and the engine turned over and stayed running on the first try.
The parent mentioned she had been trying to figure out what to do about the car seats still locked inside if the car had to sit there until Monday. That part hit different. It was not just an inconvenience, it was a real problem for a real family on a weekend night.
They drove home that same evening. The dealer would have been a longer wait and a much bigger bill. When you stock the right parts and carry the right tools, a Saturday at 8pm is no different from a Monday morning.
