2020 Ford F-250 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the Kit Carson Park Area in Escondido, I met a guy in his driveway with a 2020 F-250 that had been giving him grief for about two weeks.
He would walk up to the truck, grab the door handle, and nothing would happen. Sometimes it would unlock after a second attempt. Sometimes he had to use the button on the fob directly. Then it started doing it on the driver side only, and he figured the smart key system was failing. He called the dealer, told them what was happening, and they told him to bring it in for diagnostics.
When I got there, he already had a fresh battery in the fob. That was the right instinct, but he had put in a CR2032 instead of the CR2450 the fob actually calls for. Wrong diameter, wrong capacity. It had been sitting slightly loose in the battery slot this whole time, making intermittent contact at best.
I swapped in the correct CR2450, seated it properly, and we stood there and tested every door handle and every button. The driver side passive entry that had been the whole complaint worked first try.
He had already mentally prepared to leave the truck at the dealer for a day or two. That was the plan before I showed up.
The actual fix was a battery. The right battery, seated correctly. That was it.
