2021 Ford F-250
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2021 Ford F-250 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near Bonsall, a guy called me about his 2021 F-250. His spare key had stopped working, and he was already mentally preparing to deal with the dealer.

He'd called them first. They told him to tow the truck in, bring a photo ID, registration, and proof of ownership, then sit and wait while they handled the paperwork before they'd even look at the key. The quote they gave him was the kind of number that makes you put the phone down for a second. He didn't want to deal with any of that, so he looked up a mobile option instead and found me.

I drove out to his complex. He met me in the parking lot, a little skeptical -- I think he half expected me to show up, poke at the truck for ten minutes, and tell him he needed the dealer anyway.

I pulled out the diagnostic gear, verified his fob and the vehicle were talking on the same page, and got to work registering the replacement. The fob has a fold-out emergency blade built in, so I decoded the lock and cut the blade to match while the programming sequence ran. Forty minutes, maybe a little under.

The moment he pressed the start button and the truck fired up, he got quiet in that way people get when they were bracing for a bad day and it didn't happen. He asked why the dealer made it sound impossible to do anywhere else. I told him they weren't lying exactly -- they just weren't mentioning that a qualified mobile locksmith carries the same class of tools.

He saved a good chunk over what the dealer quoted, and he never left the parking lot.
