I got a call from a woman in Del Mar Village on a Tuesday morning. She was parked near one of the shops off Camino del Mar and the Fiesta just wasn't seeing her fob. The car would eventually start, but she had to hold the fob right against the start button to get it to wake up. She'd already put in a new CR2032, which was the right call, but it didn't fix it.
When I pulled up, I asked her to show me what she was seeing. She held the fob about six inches from the start button and the dash just sat there. Moved it closer, almost touching, and it finally lit up. That's a range problem, and on this generation Fiesta it usually points to either a weak antenna loop inside the fob housing or a pairing that's drifted and needs to be reseated through the system.
I opened the fob on the hood. The battery contact looked fine but the internal board had a very slight gap on one side where it meets the housing. That kind of micro-gap doesn't look like much but it's enough to cut the signal radius down to almost nothing. Reseated everything, confirmed contact, put it back together.
Then I ran the diagnostic side anyway, because I wanted to confirm the fob was still properly registered and nothing had flagged in the immobilizer. Everything looked clean. I walked the full test: lock, unlock, panic, start sequence from normal distance, then from across the parking lot. Three clean starts.
