2006 Kia RIO Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Saturday night in Downtown National City. A couple came out from dinner to their 2006 Kia RIO and the fob did nothing. No lock, no unlock, no response at all. They'd been inside long enough that it just went dead.
They didn't know you could hold the fob body close to the ignition cylinder and attempt a start that way when the signal is weak. Not everyone does. So they were standing in the parking lot, figuring they'd deal with it Monday.
I was already running calls nearby and had the right remote hardware for this car in the van. When I got there, the fob housing had a hairline crack along the seam where someone had pried it open before, probably a previous battery swap done with a flathead instead of a proper trim tool. The battery contact was bent slightly and the CR2032 was making inconsistent contact.
I transferred the internals into a fresh shell, seated a new CR2032 correctly, cleaned the contacts, and ran the programming sequence to make sure the remote was fully registered to the car. Locks responded immediately. Fob range came back clean in all directions.
They drove home that same night. If they'd waited for the dealer, they were looking at Monday at the earliest, the full service write-up, and a number that made them wince when they told me about it later. Being already stocked means a Saturday night call is the same job as a Tuesday morning one.
