2019 Kia RIO Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked off Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa when the call came in. Guy had a 2019 Kia Rio, and the morning had not gone his way.
He'd walked out of a record shop he runs nearby, hit the door handle, and nothing. The fob just sat there. He tried the backup approach, held the fob right up to the start button, and the car eventually woke up enough to let him in, but it was slow and inconsistent. By the time he got home, it had stopped responding entirely at normal distance.
He'd already been to the dealer. They told him the fob was bad, quoted him a figure he didn't want to hear, and mentioned something about scheduling and parts lead time. He found me through a search and asked if I could come to him instead.
I pulled up, and the first thing I did before touching anything was swap the CR2032. New cell, correct orientation, contacts cleaned. Then I walked the fob through its functions: lock, unlock, trunk release, the panic. Range came back. The start button saw it cleanly.
That was it. The fob itself was fine. The battery had just dropped below the threshold where the receiver was happy.
He asked about a spare while I was there, which is always the smarter conversation to have when you already have a tech in front of you. We handled that on site too, programmed to the vehicle, tested across all functions before I put the tools away.
The dealer quote for the original "bad fob" replacement was sitting in his phone the whole time. What he paid me was a fraction of that, and he walked away with two working keys instead of one.
