Yes, and it matters more than people realize. When new keys are registered to the immobilizer, all previously enrolled fobs are wiped from the system as part of that process. Only the keys present during the programming session get added back. If your fob was stolen rather than just misplaced, that erasure is the part that actually protects you. Walking away with a new key and leaving the old one still active in the system is not a complete job.

Q: Does my 2017 Kia Rio smart key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There is a small release on the fob body. Press it and the metal blade slides out. That blade cuts to your specific vehicle and fits the driver door lock cylinder for manual entry when the fob battery is dead or the vehicle is not responding to the remote. Swap it with a fresh name-brand cell, not a discount store battery that has been sitting on a shelf. Seat it firmly and make sure the contacts inside the fob are not bent or corroded.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2017 Rio. Can I program it myself?
