2020 Kia Soul Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked up in Ocean View Hills finishing paperwork on another job when the call came in. Guy working a late shift at a laundromat over in Otay Mesa. His only key to his 2020 Soul was gone, and he was standing in a parking lot at 10:30 at night trying to figure out whether to call a tow.
He didn't have his registration on him. Didn't know what a VIN was. He was close to just walking away from the car.
I kept him on the phone. Told him to walk up to the windshield, look down at the base of the glass on the driver's side, and read me the number on a little plate near the corner. He found it. Seventeen characters. That's all I needed. I told him to check his insurance app while I was already pulling the right fob blank and getting my equipment ready. His registration was right there in the app.
By the time I pulled into that lot, I already knew what I was working with. The 2020 Soul uses a 5-button smart key with the factory fob and a CR2032 inside. All-keys-lost on this system means going in through the OBD port, clearing the old key data out of the immobilizer, and enrolling fresh keys from scratch. I did that under the parking lot lights while he stood there watching, and you could see him relax in real time as each step confirmed.
Both keys programmed, tested on every function, emergency blade verified. He drove home.
The dealer was closed. Even if they weren't, he would have needed a tow to get the car there, and then waited days for parts. The VIN through a windshield was the thing that changed his whole night.
