2022 Kia Soul Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Down near Bay Marina, a guy pulled over at a waterfront spot and heard a crack when he tried to unlock his door. He looked down and the key blade had snapped clean in half. One piece in his hand, one piece wedged in the lock cylinder of his 2022 Kia Soul.
He'd already called another locksmith who told him the cylinder needed to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, a few hundred dollars minimum. He didn't want to hear that, so he kept looking.
I got there and used a broken key extraction tool to work the fragment out without touching the wafer surfaces. No drilling, no damage to the cylinder. Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position to get the exact cut depths. Cut a fresh blade to match, then handled the transponder programming through the OBD port so the new flip key would start the car, not just open it.
The cylinder looked exactly the same when I left as it did before the key broke. He kept asking if I was sure it wasn't damaged. I showed him. It was fine.
Drilling should be a last resort, not a first move. That's the whole point.
