2013 Mazda CX-5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked near the shops in Downtown Lemon Grove. He had his 2013 CX-5 sitting there, would not start, and the dash was showing a key warning. He had already swapped the battery in the fob himself, which was the right first instinct. But the problem did not go away.
When I got there, he handed me the fob. The replacement battery was a CR2032 instead of a CR2025. Slightly thicker. It looked like it fit, but it was putting uneven pressure on the contacts inside, and the connection was inconsistent enough that the vehicle security system was not reading the fob reliably. The fob would sometimes register and sometimes drop out mid-session.
I popped in the correct CR2025, seated it properly, and we tested it a few times in a row. Locked, unlocked, walked away, walked back, started the car. It held every time.
He had spent twenty minutes on the phone with the dealer before calling me. They were already talking about towing it in to have the fob and the system evaluated. He was relieved that the fix was that clean. Sometimes the smallest thing, one millimeter of battery thickness, is the whole story.
