2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy renting at a garden apartment near Dictionary Hill in Spring Valley. He had one working key left on his 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the head was cracking down the side.
He wanted a spare cut and programmed before it split all the way and he was stuck. He had already called the dealer. The quote he got back was enough to make him go looking for another option.
I pulled up to his building with everything I needed already in the van. No original key required for the blade cut. I decoded the lock cylinder directly to get all the cut positions, then cut a fresh blade to match. From there it was OBD programming to register the transponder chip to the vehicle. The whole thing wrapped up in under 35 minutes in the parking lot.
He watched most of it, asked a few questions about how the transponder actually works, and seemed genuinely surprised that it was that fast. He saved a solid chunk compared to the dealer quote and never had to arrange a tow or a ride.
The cracked original still works too. I registered both during the same session, which is the only way to keep them both alive on this system.
