Over in Sweetwater, a 350z owner had one key, and it stopped working mid-week. Not lost, not broken in the lock. Just stopped being recognized. The car would crank and die immediately every time he tried to start it, and the security light was staying on after the crank. He had already replaced the CR1616, which was the right call, but the symptom was still there.

I came to him in National City, connected my programmer to the OBD port, and pulled up the immobilizer system. The key itself was the issue, the transponder inside the head had degraded to the point where it was failing the handshake with the immobilizer. I programmed a replacement remote head key with the factory fob ID on the driveway, tested lock, unlock, trunk, and ignition start, confirmed the security light cleared, and let him run it through a full cold start cycle before I packed up. He was back on the road the same night. The dealer comparison came up once, at the end, almost as an afterthought. He saved a good chunk and skipped the tow entirely.
