2009 Nissan 350z
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Nissan 350z Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in Sweetwater, a 350z owner had one key, and it stopped working mid-week. Not lost, not broken in the lock. Just stopped being recognized. The car would crank and die immediately every time he tried to start it, and the security light was staying on after the crank. He had already replaced the CR1616, which was the right call, but the symptom was still there.

He had looked into going to the dealer in the area and was told to expect a wait, a tow since the car would not stay running, and a bill he was not prepared for. He called me instead.

I came to him in National City, connected my programmer to the OBD port, and pulled up the immobilizer system. The key itself was the issue, the transponder inside the head had degraded to the point where it was failing the handshake with the immobilizer. The car's security system was doing exactly what it was supposed to do: refusing to run.

I programmed a replacement remote head key with the factory fob ID on the driveway, tested lock, unlock, trunk, and ignition start, confirmed the security light cleared, and let him run it through a full cold start cycle before I packed up. He was back on the road the same night. The dealer comparison came up once, at the end, almost as an afterthought. He saved a good chunk and skipped the tow entirely.
