A guy in the Cedros Design District flagged me down while I was wrapping up another job nearby. He had a 2018 Kicks and his fob had stopped being recognized consistently. Sometimes the car saw it, sometimes it didn't. He'd already put a new battery in and it helped for about a week.

Then I walked the car. Every button. I stepped back thirty feet and tested lock and unlock. Tried the start button with the fob in my pocket, then with it in my hand, then from the driver seat. Three clean starts with no hesitation from the immobilizer.
He asked why I kept starting it. I told him three starts with no issue tells me the registration held and the system isn't toggling. One clean start can be a fluke. Three is a pattern.
He mentioned the dealer wanted to keep the car overnight and charge him significantly more. I was done in under forty-five minutes, right there on the street.
