A shop owner down in the Border Area of San Ysidro called me on a Wednesday morning. He runs a small business right off the main commercial strip, and his 2022 Kicks was sitting in the lot with a smart key that had started behaving strangely the week before. I swapped the CR2032 on the hood, seated it correctly, and tested every function: passive unlock at the handle, lock, push-button start, and the panic button. Consistent every time, full range.

We took care of that too, right there in the lot. The dealer quote he had gotten weeks earlier when the fob first started acting up was a good chunk more than what he paid me, and he would have had to leave the car there.
