2025 Nissan Kicks Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Bancroft, off one of those side streets near the park courts, a guy called me about his 2025 Kicks. He had his fob, battery was new, and the car just was not responding right. Doors wouldn't unlock from the handle touch, the start button was throwing a key warning, and he had already tried the obvious stuff.
He met me in the parking lot by the courts and watched while I worked through it. First thing I did was pull the fob open and check the CR2032 he had just replaced. It was the right battery, seated fine. So this wasn't a battery call.
I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and pulled up the Intelligent Key module. There was a registration fault logged. The fob had lost its pairing, which can happen on these newer systems when the battery goes fully dead before the owner catches it. The module still had a key slot registered but the fob was no longer communicating correctly with the vehicle security system.
I cleared the fault, ran the key registration sequence, and waited through the security timer. Then I did what I always do before I pack up: walked the perimeter of the car testing handle touch unlock on both doors, ran every button on the fob from about 30 feet, and did three consecutive starts with a full shutdown between each one.
Third start, clean. No warning on the dash. Handle touch working on both sides.
He said he had already called the dealer and they wanted him to bring the car in, which would have meant arranging a tow since the car wasn't reliably starting. Instead he got it handled in the parking lot where it sat. Saved a good chunk and didn't lose his afternoon.
