If the engine starts normally, the transponder side is fine. Dead or weak remote buttons on their own almost always come down to the battery, a bent contact inside the key head, or a cracked circuit board inside the fob portion from years of drops and pocket wear.

Start with the battery. The correct cell for this key is a CR1620, which is a specific size that not every store stocks correctly. Confirm you have the right one seated flat before ruling it out. If a correct fresh battery does not bring the range back, I can open the key head on site, check the contacts and board condition, and tell you whether it is a contact fix or a full key replacement. A lot of owners have bought a whole new key when they needed a two-minute contact repair.

My key turns but the engine cranks and then immediately stalls. What is going on?

That pattern points to the immobilizer not recognizing the key. The engine cranks because the mechanical side is fine, then the security system cuts fuel or spark because it did not get a valid signal from the transponder chip in the key head. It can happen when the chip inside an older remote-head key has cracked internally from wear or impact, even when the key looks normal from the outside. It can also happen after a battery goes fully dead in certain situations, though that is less common on this generation.

This is not something a new battery fixes. I diagnose it on site, confirm whether the transponder is the issue, and handle repairing or replacing the key and re-enrolling it with the immobilizer. Stall-on-start is one of those symptoms that looks like an engine problem but traces right back to the key.
