2013 Nissan Xterra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2013 Nissan Xterra Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A man on a fixed income called me from the dialysis clinic near La Mesa Village. He does three treatment sessions a week and his 2013 Nissan Xterra is how he gets there.

His only key's remote had gone dead, and he wanted a working spare cut and programmed before the original gave out completely. Getting to a dealer was not a small ask for him. It meant arranging a ride, waiting, and losing most of a day.

I drove to the clinic that morning. The Xterra uses a standard edge-cut blade, so I decoded the lock mechanically and cut a fresh key on site. Then I connected to the OBD port, registered the transponder chip in the new key to the vehicle's immobilizer, and paired the remote functions on both keys at the same time. Start, lock, unlock, panic. All confirmed before I packed up.

He sat in the waiting room through most of it. When I knocked and handed him two working keys, he said he had been putting it off for months because he assumed it meant a dealer trip.

The dealer quote he had gotten was for one key. What I charged for two was less than that. He made his next appointment without thinking twice about his key.
