2014 Nissan Xterra Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a tax accountant parked at her firm's lot in the Winter Gardens area of Lakeside. It was a Wednesday afternoon in the middle of tax season. She had clients booked back to back through the evening and her 2014 Nissan Xterra had gone quiet -- the remote wouldn't lock or unlock, and she wasn't sure if the car would even start.
She couldn't leave. Couldn't wait days for a dealer appointment. Couldn't arrange a tow during office hours and still make her one o'clock.
I came to her. Pulled into the lot and found the Xterra right where she said it would be. Tested the key first -- remote functions were dead, but the blade still started the car, which told me the transponder side was still enrolled and the battery was the more likely culprit before anything else. Swapped in a fresh CR1620, cleaned the contacts, and retested. Remote came back on all three buttons.
Because the remote had been unresponsive long enough that she wasn't sure it had ever fully worked on this key, I ran a quick verification through the diagnostic port anyway, just to confirm the fob registration was clean and nothing was flagged in the security system.
Everything checked out. She walked out of her one o'clock appointment to a fully working key. The car never moved. Neither did she.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that included a tow she didn't have time for. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and it happened on her lunch break.
