2004 Pontiac Bonneville
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I really have to tow my 2004 Bonneville to the dealer just to get a new key?

Not if you call a mobile locksmith first. Dealers need the car in their bay because they don't go to you. So if you have no working key, that means a tow, a wait, and then whatever they charge for the key itself. The tow alone adds real money before you've even touched the key problem.

Q: What do I need to show to prove the car is mine?

A valid photo ID and something that ties you to the vehicle, your registration or title works. I pull the VIN from the dash or the door jamb sticker and verify everything on site. Takes a few minutes, not a half-day appointment. Same standard a dealer would hold you to, just done faster.

Q: My 2004 Bonneville starts but immediately stalls right after. Could this be a key or immobilizer issue?

That's actually a textbook sign that the transponder in the key isn't communicating with the immobilizer correctly. The car starts because the mechanical cut is right, then dies because the security system doesn't see a valid chip signal and cuts the engine. You'll sometimes see a security-related warning light stay on or flash on the dash when this happens.

Q: I bought a replacement key blank online. Can I just bring it to you to program?

Sometimes, yes. The catch is that not every blank sold online carries the right transponder chip for this vehicle. If the chip type doesn't match what the immobilizer expects, programming will fail no matter how good the equipment is. I carry blanks I know are correct for the 2004 Bonneville, so if you want to skip the guesswork, just let me supply it.

2004 Pontiac Bonneville Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in Downtown Oceanside, parked in a lot off the main strip. He'd handed his only key to someone to move the car, it came back bent, and then it snapped trying to coax it into the ignition. Half in the cylinder, half in his hand.

He'd already called a dealer. They told him he'd need to tow it in, make an appointment, and wait a day or two. He wasn't looking for a lecture about having a spare. He just needed to get home.

I drove out, extracted the broken piece from the ignition cylinder without damaging the lock, cut a replacement key to the vehicle, and programmed the transponder chip to the immobilizer right there in the lot. He watched the whole thing from about three feet away asking questions, which I don't mind at all.

When the car started on the first turn, he went quiet for a second. Then he said he almost paid for a tow on top of everything else.

He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and he was back on the road in under an hour. No tow. No appointment. No waiting.

Pontiac Bonneville Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I'm stranded with no working key. Can you come to me in Oceanside?▼

Yes. That's the whole point of a mobile service. Tell me where you are in Oceanside or Downtown Oceanside, and I come to you with the key blank and programming equipment already loaded in the van. You don't need to arrange a tow or figure out how to get a dead-key car across town. The cutting and transponder programming happen right at the vehicle.
