Out in Carmel Mountain Ranch, I got a call from a guy who had bought his Grand Am used about three months prior. Previous owner handed him one key and one fob, no extras. He'd been nursing both of them since day one.
The fob finally gave out first. He replaced the CR2032 himself, which was the right move, but the lock and unlock buttons still had maybe eight feet of range and the trunk button did nothing at all. He figured the fob was just old and toast.

He asked what the dealer would have charged. I told him to call and find out. He laughed and said he'd take my word for it.
