2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Casa de Oro, I got a call from a guy who had been chasing a no-start on his 2002 Grand Prix for two days. He had already paid a shop to check the fuel pump. They said it was fine. He had a friend look at the crank sensor. Also fine.

He called me almost as an afterthought, figured maybe I could at least get the door open while he waited for a tow. When I asked him to describe the no-start, he mentioned the engine would catch and run for maybe a second, then shut itself off. That's a pretty specific pattern.

I drove out to La Mesa, found him in his driveway, and looked at his key. The blade was worn down noticeably and the head of the key had a small crack running through the plastic near the base. Damage like that can compromise the transponder inside.

We verified the issue, cut a new key blade to his vehicle, programmed the transponder through the OBD port, and tested it. Started right up and stayed running.

He had spent real money chasing a fuel and ignition problem that was never there. The whole key job took less time than his trip to the parts store had.
