Pontiac Sunfire Key: Mobile vs Dealership
Two options, one clear winner
1996 Pontiac Sunfire Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out in the Viejas Area, Alpine side. He had a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire sitting in his driveway and only one key left. Not lost, just worn down to the point where it was getting stubborn in the ignition. He'd been wiggling it every morning for about a month.
He wanted a spare before the inevitable happened. Smart move.
I pulled up, took a look at the original, and decoded it properly before cutting. Good thing, too. The original had enough wear that cutting straight from it would have made a slightly off copy. I went back to the correct bitting, cut a fresh key, and tested it in the ignition and both door locks right there in his driveway.
He mentioned he'd called the dealer first. They told him to bring the car in. He didn't have a second key to drive it there, and they weren't sure how long it would take once it arrived. He was looking at a tow, a wait, and a bill that would have been a lot more than what he paid me.
The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes. Key worked clean on the first try.
