2002 Pontiac Sunfire Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in Downtown Lemon Grove. He had a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire sitting in his driveway and a fob that had completely stopped responding. Not weak range, just dead. He had already put a fresh CR2032 in and nothing changed.
When I pulled up, he handed me the fob and the ignition key separately -- which is correct for this car, they are two different pieces. The ignition key was fine. The car started. The fob just would not communicate with the vehicle at all.
I checked the fob internals first. The battery contact had a slight corrosion spot on the negative terminal. Cleaned it, reseated the CR2032, and tried the onboard relearn. Still nothing. The fob itself had a cracked circuit board trace that you only see when you look closely under light. It was not repairable.
Got a replacement fob out of my stock, programmed it through the OBD port right there in his driveway, and walked through all four buttons. Lock, unlock, and the remaining two functions all confirmed working before I packed up.
He mentioned the dealer told him to bring it in and leave it for a day. He drove past me on his way to check the mail before I was even done loading the van.
