Out in Peutz Valley, just east of Alpine, I got a call from a family whose 2014 Ram 2500 was sitting cold at a campsite. They had come out for the weekend with one fob between them. Dad walked the trail back three times looking for it. Gone.
Mom had already called the dealer. The dealer said bring it in Monday, and mentioned a tow since there was no way to start it. I told them I could be there that afternoon.

I decoded the door lock mechanically, cut a new blade to match, and got them into the cab. Then I connected through the OBD port, pulled the information the immobilizer needed to accept a new key, and ran the all-keys-lost sequence. The old fob got wiped out of the system in the process - if it ever turned up, it would not start the truck.
The new remote head key went in, the engine turned over, and I walked every button on the fob before I packed up. Lock, unlock, the rear window drop, all of it. The truck started in the same dirt spot it had been sitting in all afternoon.
They drove out that evening. The dealer comparison barely came up. They just wanted to get back on the road, and that is what happened.
