Out in Shadowridge, around 11:30 at night, I got a call from a security guard working an industrial park off Shadowridge Drive in Vista. His 2015 Ram 2500 was sitting at the gate. His only key, a five-button remote head key, had stopped responding earlier in the shift. The truck was locked, the key wouldn't communicate, and he was already looking up tow companies and dealer hours.
I told him to stay put.
When I arrived, he had the key out and was clicking it at the truck like it was going to change its mind. I checked the battery first, CR2032, and it was flat dead. Swapped it. The remote came back, but the truck still wouldn't start. The immobilizer hadn't seen a valid signal in long enough that it needed a proper re-enrollment to trust the key again.
I connected my programmer to the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost procedure for his platform, and enrolled the original key as the primary. The whole process took maybe twenty minutes including the battery swap and my initial checks. He drove out of that lot before midnight.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a couple days out just for a diagnostic appointment, plus a tow since he couldn't move the truck himself. He ended up paying a fraction of that, and he didn't miss a shift.
I do this job on the 2500 regularly. For the rare platform where my tools don't cover all-keys-lost, I say so upfront before anyone wastes time. But this generation is well within scope, and I carry the right hardware for it.
