A barber at his shop in Oceanside on a Saturday morning told me he'd already been burned. Another locksmith charged him full price for a 2018 Ram Promaster Fobik that never programmed correctly. The truck would crank but the immobilizer cut fuel after two seconds. Classic failed WIN learn. The other locksmith said the module was bad and left.
The module wasn't bad. The locksmith hadn't completed the full security sequence. Ram's WIN module requires a specific PIN read and key registration flow. If you skip a step, the truck accepts the Fobik data temporarily but doesn't write it to permanent memory.
I connected through OBD with my IM608. I cleared the failed key data, read the PIN fresh, ran a clean Fobik learn with the proper security timer, and confirmed the new key was written permanently. His fob, FCC ID RX2TRF198, had all 3 buttons working plus a clean start. I showed him the confirmation screen.
He paid me $79. Dealer charges $176. He'd already paid the first locksmith too. But I could make sure it was done right this time.
