2023 Ram Promaster Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Friday night in Old Town National City, close to nine-thirty. A couple came out from the area near the theater to find their 2023 Ram ProMaster sitting cold. The fob was doing nothing. No response on any button. The van would not acknowledge the key at all.
They assumed it was stuck until Monday. Dealer. Tow. The whole thing.
I was about fifteen minutes out and already had the correct fob shell, a fresh CR2032, and the programming tools loaded in my van. Everything for this job was in labeled drawers before I ever got the call. I do not order parts when someone is stuck.
When I got there, I popped the fob open on the hood. The battery was original, and you could see it had been in there a while. Swapped the CR2032, cleaned the contacts, reseated everything. Still a no-start condition, which told me the pairing between the fob and the vehicle security system had dropped. That happens on these vans, especially ones that get used hard during the week.
I connected my programming tool through the OBD port, re-enrolled the fob, and verified the van would start. Tested every button before I packed up.
They drove home that night. The dealer conversation never had to happen.
