2019 Ram Promaster
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to me in Otay Mesa or the Nestor area?

We give you a real arrival window when you call, based on where we are and what the schedule looks like. Because we're already on the road and mobile, we're often faster than arranging a tow to the dealer. We come directly to you, whether that's a parking lot, a job site, or your driveway.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made the same day?

In most cases, yes. We carry remote fobs, cutting equipment, and programming tools for the ProMaster in our service vehicle. If we have your unit in stock and the schedule allows, we can be on site and have a new remote programmed and tested the same day you call. Dealers often can't match that turnaround because the fob has to be ordered first.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself?

Not on the 2019 ProMaster. There's no button sequence or ignition-turn trick that registers a new remote on this van. Programming requires a scan tool connected to the OBD port. So if you already bought a fob thinking you'd handle it yourself, the fob may still be usable. You just need someone with the right equipment to pair it to the vehicle. Call us and we can confirm compatibility before you come out of pocket again.

Q: My ProMaster key blade is worn and the fob still works. Do I have to replace the whole thing?

No. The blade and the remote are separate concerns. If your fob electronics are functioning fine but the key blade is worn to the point where it's giving you trouble in the ignition or door lock, the blade can be addressed without replacing or reprogramming the remote side. A worn blade on a work van is pretty common. ProMasters put in long days and the key takes the same punishment the van does.

2019 Ram Promaster Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A call came in from the VA clinic parking lot in Otay Mesa, over near the Nestor side of things. Veteran, wheelchair user, no aide that day. His 2019 Ram ProMaster was his adapted vehicle and the only fob he had was unresponsive. Getting to a dealership wasn't a matter of inconvenience. It was a genuine barrier.

I drove out to him. He stayed right where he was.

The fob battery was the first thing I checked. Swapped it for a fresh CR2032 and tested. Still nothing on lock or unlock. At that point it was clear the fob itself had failed, not just the battery. I had a compatible replacement unit in the van, programmed it to the ProMaster on site using the OBD port, and verified every button before I handed it over.

He didn't have to arrange a ride. Didn't have to call the dealer and wait two days for a part to be ordered. The whole job was done in the lot.

When I told him what the dealer had quoted just to get the replacement fob in hand before any labor, he just nodded. He already knew. That's why he called a mobile locksmith first.

How long does a 2019 Ram ProMaster key replacement take?▼

Once I'm at your location, most ProMaster key jobs run between 20 and 45 minutes. Programming the remote through the OBD port is the bulk of the time, and it's not a long process. What eats time at a dealership is everything before that: ordering the fob, waiting for it to arrive, scheduling the appointment. One ProMaster owner posted online about a two-week wait just to get the replacement fob in stock before programming could even begin.
